Rwanda Taekwondo Gorilla Open set for Jan. 10

The second edition of the annual TAEKWONDO Gorilla Open is scheduled for January 10-12, 2014 at Amahoro indoor stadium, according to officials of the local taekwondo governing body.

The tournament is expected to attract over 300 athletes (juniors and seniors) from 12 countries, namely; Egypt, DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Tunisia, Gabon, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Libya and organizers Rwanda.

The first edition of the competitions that was held in January this year at Amahoro stadium had attracted just four countries namely; DR Congo, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.  

"Preparations are going well, everything is in line and we are expecting to host a much better and bigger tournament than the first edition,” Rwanda Taekwondo Federation’s secretary general Placide Bagabo told Times Sport on Wednesday.

Individual best performers will be awarded medals while winning teams (countries) will walk away with winners’ trophies.
