Rwanda could be on the verge of getting a second professional golfer should Jean Baptist Hakizimana shine in the trials that are being held in Uganda.

Hakizimana is relishing the chance to tame his Ugandan counterparts this week as he seeks to join the professional ranks.

The talented 22-year-old fell short in the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) trials back in February after being edged by Uganda’s Steven Birungi at the death.

Hakizimana will take full advantage of his trade mark long drives as he seeks to close doors on his amateur career and join close pal Emmanuel Ruterana in the paid ranks.

The Rwandan sensation began his charge in the 72-hole competition on Monday alongside four other Ugandans.
It is believed that the golfers will play on different courses to test their ability to adjust their game on different surfaces.

With a much improved short game and putting technique, Hakizimana feels "as confident as ever” and better equipped to shine.

"I feel in great shape and will play one hole at A time,” he said before his departure.

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s pro-golfer Ruterana has backed Hakizimana to make the cut. "He is an excellent striker of the ball and he is feeling more comfortable on the greens,” Ruterana acknowledged.
