I read in your paper yesterday that uncontrolled fishing is posing a great threat to the existence of fish. It is indeed true and if nothing is done, we shall have no fish in our lakes any more.

As the lakes continue to run out of fish due to years of over fishing, more and more fishing by (companies and associations) who are ordering their workers to do whatever it takes to fill their holds.

This has made them ignore the already ‘inadequate’ rules that are in place to protect fishing in the country.

Therefore, with virtually 70 per cent of the world’s fisheries classified as to be fully  overexploited, depleted or in a state of collapse, it is not surprising to find us left with no fish at all in the near future.

The authorities responsible should come to our rescue before it is too late. There are people who claim to be working well in the fishing industry but reality on the ground proves them otherwise.

Examples on the ground show us very young fish being sold in markets, on roadsides, etcetera. Care that is more serious is generally needed, if we are to have our fishing industry flourish.
