Editor,Refer to Kenneth Agutamba’s article, "Then the law said: Let the people smoke weed!” (Sunday Times, December 22).I am developing a particular liking for your writer Mr Agutamba. The way he tells these stories, breaking far away from this region, but somehow he manages to link them to the local situations – including this particular one!The problem of drugs, as he put it, is a global tragedy and the war against drug abuse far from being won. This new approach of legalising might only result in another small battle victory but not winning the war.Indeed, like the author argued, Uruguay should be kept alone on this sticky path.Rwakoojo Tatya, East Africa------------------------------------What a headline! What a nice read this was! On a serious note, I think states need to take Uruguay’s new venture seriously. This business of legalizing (drugs) is scary to some of us who have seen real life drug stories...I work in Nairobi and though I have never used drugs myself, I know people who have and trust me, legalisation is not what they need. They need help to quit.Roger Amumpaire, Nairobi, Kenya
