Over 1200 complete sports training camp

Rwanda Schools Sports Association has trained over 1,200 players from different secondary schools in football, volleyball, basketball and netball during a three-week holiday camp that closed on Sunday.

Rwanda Schools Sports Association has trained over 1,200 players from different secondary schools in football, volleyball, basketball and netball during a three-week holiday camp that closed on Sunday.All players were note more than 17 years old.Volleyball had 24 teams both the boys and girls categories. Football also had 24 teams.Both volleyball and football players were camping at Scolaire de Byimana in Muhanga district, Southern Province.  Basketball attracted 24 teams with each team comprising of eight players in both genders; handball had 12 teams of ten players each; while netball had six teams of 12 players each.These three groups camped at Save Second School in Huye district in the Southern Province.The training camp was organised by the Rwanda Schools Sports Association with financial support from the Ministry of Education and that of Sports and Culture.The objective was to detect youth talents for future national teams.The Technical Director of Rwanda Schools Sports Association, Aron Rurangirwa, said: "We are doing it to help the federations have many players to pick from for future competitions at different levels.”He noted that after the camp, the players are ‘handed’ over to the respective responsible federations for further development. It is an annual event organised during third-term school holidays and it involves primary school pupils and secondary school students.
