Beach Volleyball Friends Forum, in conjunction with Karongi District, have organised a two-day Charismas and New Year tournament this weekend in Karongi.According to the one of the organisers, Fidele Leon Mutesi, the Nyanza volleyball team head coach, the tournament is not only aiming at promoting the game but also giving the people of Karongi something to cheer about in the festive season.Karongi, situated on the shores of Lake Kivu, is regarded as the ‘birth place’ of beach volleyball in Rwanda.The event will attract over 20 senior and veteran players in both male and female categories. Last year, the pair of Flavier Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma won the Karongi Beach Volleyball championship.Africa Junior champion pair of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denise Mutatsimpundu won the women’s title.The first beach volleyball tournament in Rwanda was played in 2009 and it was sponsored by Karongi District.
