Eighteen teams register for 3 on 3 Street ball tourney

Eighteen teams have registered to take part in this weekend’s 3 on 3 Street ball tournament organised by the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) at Amahoro indoor stadium.

Eighteen teams have registered to take part in this weekend’s 3 on 3 Street ball tournament organised by the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) at Amahoro indoor stadium.The competition, which starts Saturday and ends on Sunday, will help the federation to select the U-18 team that will compete in All Africa Youth Games 2014 in Gaborone, Botswana. The 3 on 3 is a new game format endorsed by Federation of International Basketball Association (Fiba) as part of a mission to develop and promote basketball in line with Fiba’s vision to make basketball the most popular community sports discipline across the world.Each team will be composed of four players (three players on the field and one substitute) and they play for 10 minutes.According to Ferwaba technical director, Didier Shema Maboko, all the 18 teams that had confirmed their participation by press time, are for the U-18 category.He said: "We have received many students and are expecting many more teams to register before the tournament gets underway.”The tournament will be played in three categories; Juniors (U18) as well as the seniors Men and Women; however, no senior players had shown interest by Friday.
