Police in Musanze District are holding a 17-year -old girl suspected of killing her own baby.The suspect, (name withheld), hails from Gataraga Sector. She admitted having killed the baby after giving birth, adding that she was misled by the man who impregnated her. She said she was impregnated by an executive secretary of one of the cells of Busogo Sector but couldn’t reveal his identity."I strangled my baby. I was deceived by my boyfriend, a local leader. He impregnated me  and promised to marry me after giving birth but upon delivery, he advised me to kill the baby promising he would help me evade justice, " she added.She is being held at Muhoza police station in Musanze District.Northern Province Regional Police spokesperson Chief Supt Francis Gahima said there was no reason to kill the baby and that the suspect will be punished accordingly.He added that investigations are ongoing to find out other people who might have been involved in the crime.She faces life in prison according to the penal code, article 140.
