This year’s High School Idol edition ended on a high, with many young talents walking away with accolades. High School Idol is an annual talent competition.The competition is a brainchild of Daniel Izere, a student at SOS Technical High School. It seeks to help young people reflect on their own talents and to have their dreams realised. The 2013 event was held on November 24, and it attracted hundreds of students from several secondary schools across the country.Photos and the bios of the 2013 High School Idol winners:Sharon Bayingana Kirezi, 15Award: Best Poet.Kirezi is a S.4 student at Wellspring Academy. Kirezi seems rather unassuming, but once she starts to talk, her clear accent and her shy gaze makes her very endearing. Her childhood passion was art but she later realised her talent in poem when she was given an English assignment to write a poem about friends. Not after so long, the High School Idol came up and she thought it was a perfect platform to put her talent at use. "I won’t say I am a professional poet or that it is a career I want to follow; just that I am very passionate about it and this is what makes me happy,” she says. Frank Axel Nyabagabo, 17Award: Best Male Swaggerific.Nyabagabo is a S.5 student at Glory Secondary School and the eldest of three siblings. When the High School Idol rolled into town this year,Nyabagabo didn’t hesitate to take his swagger on stage... and he doesn’t regret it at all. Social and truly intelligent, Nyabagabo’s dream career is to become a professional photographer.Roxanne Carene Keza, 17Award: Modelling (2nd runners-up) Keza is in S.6 at Gashora Girls Academy. Keza says that her passion for fashion developed when she joined Gashora Girls’ Academy of Science and Technology. At school, she met a group of girls who inspired her to love fashion. Later, Keza and her friends formed a group called Ruc Fashion.Fast talking, humorous, and trendy, Keza can spin any piece of cloth into a designer outfit. Apart from her love for designing, Keza enjoys dancing and watching fashion shows. The sky is the limit for this upcoming fashion designer. Watch her in the-not-so-distant future!Daniella Gaza, 15Gaza is in Grade 11 (S.5) at Green Hills Academy.Award: Best Female Swaggerific.Gaza is the first born among four siblings. Growing up in Kigali as a little girl, Gazaalways wanted to become a professional fashion designer.A fan of High School Idol, she has been following the show and was determined to audition for the show this year. Gaza admits that though her passion is fashion, her major hobby is singing. She also enjoys hanging out with friends.Faustine Kiyoge, 16.Award: Best Female singer Kiyoge was born in February 27, 1997, in a family of 10, (five boys and five girls). She is a student at Glory High School.Kiyoge believes that she is an independent woman, who can take care of herself. She is regularly complimented by her peers because of her excellent voice.She hopes to use the fame she got from High School Idol to improve her talent and become a recognised musician.
