Ngoma Mayor Aphrodise Nambaje has warned youth in the district against indulging in acts of robbery. The mayor made the remarks, while reacting to a recent incident where thieves went on rampage, attacking at least ten homes in one night.Nambaje told The New Times yesterday that the majority robbers were youth who have shunned agriculture activities in communities."There is no doubt the acts of robbery that recently hit Kibungo town and elsewhere involved young men who have refused to work on farms. They stay in bars during the day drinking and loitering and at night, they break into people’s houses for cash and property,” Nambaje said.Nambaje warned the youth who are engaged in robbery that they will be caught and prosecuted. He further called on residents to identify and isolate wrongdoers in communities, adding that local night patrols would be intensified."We shall continue to teach and sensitise the youth to engage in agriculture activities, instead of crime.  Those who wish to be rehabilitated have a chance to join rehabilitation centres, but those adamant will face the law,” he said while calling upon the residents not to worry.Superintendent Benoit Nsengiyunva, Eastern Region Police Spokesman, said most of the suspected criminals were drug users who acted under the influence of drugs. He said six suspects were arrested in connection with robbery."It is unfortunate that young men engage in crime. They should know that tough actions await them. They cannot escape the long arm of the law,” he said.
