KAYONZA — Teachers in Kayonza district over the weekend elected committees for the recently formed cultural institution (Itorero). 

Stephen Rwamurangwa was elected president of secondary school teachers’ Itorero, while Innocent Condo was elected president of primary school teachers.

During the same elections, a vice president and secretary were elected for committees of both secondary and primary levels.

While addressing fellow teachers, after the elections, Rwamurangwa called upon them to build strong cooperation among primary, secondary and university teachers, saying each level needs the other for better education.

"I will coordinate teachers and encourage them all to join Mwarimu SACCO (an association of teachers). Teachers need partnership with one another and by joining teachers can get out of poverty,” Rwamurangwa told The New Times. He added that he will also encourage teachers to fight against genocide ideology in schools.

Condo appreciated the confidence entrusted in him and promised to serve teachers whole-heartedly. He thanked the Ministry of Education for introducing Itorero, which he said it has served as uniting factor amongst teachers.
