Vulnerable pupils get scholastic materials

RUSIZI — A US based NGO, Soroptimiste International, has donated an assortment of scholastic materials worth Frw1.5m to several vulnerable pupils in Rusizi district.

The items delivered last Friday included over 100 school uniforms, dozens of exercise books, pens, and sports wear. 

The beneficiaries were drawn from Bugumira, Ishywa and Nkobo primary schools in Nkombo Sector.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mariana Mukankaka, of Soroptimiste International, said that their donation was aimed at improving the living and education standards of vulnerable pupils in the sector.

"Improving the living and education standards of the poor particularly women and children is among our targeted goals. The pupils have been lacking these materials due to financial constraints,” Mukankaka said. She said they would extend more support to Rusizi district in various developmental fields.

Béatha Musabyimana, the headmistress of Nkombo Primary School hailed Soroptimiste for their donation, and called upon them to provide more support to other vulnerable children in the area. She advised pupils to use the acquired materials efficiently and effectively towards their education needs.

Musabyimana appealed to pupils to read hard in order to attain better grades that would enable them go for further studies to get a bright future.
