A team of eight senior military officers of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) arrived in the country this weekend for a study tour of the organization and management of Rwanda’s military and defence establishments, the Military Spokesman has said.

In a press statement issued by Maj. Jill Rutaremana, he indicated that the SPLA team is made up of seven General Officers and one Senior Officer and will be in the country for a period of one week.

"The team is led by Maj Gen Kuol Arob, who heads the Joint Technical Committee of the Joint Defence Board in SPLA.” Rutaremara said.

Rutaremara also added that the visit will provide a practical opportunity for SPLA commandos to learn about organization and management of the military and defence establishments basing on the Rwandan experience in defence transformation and the overall socio–economic establishment of Rwanda.

The team is scheduled to meet with the Chief of General Staff Gen. James Kabarebe and the Minister of Defence Gen. Marcel Gatsizi. 

After their meeting with the Rwandan Military high command, the team is scheduled to also meet with the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning James Musoni and Minister of Local Government Protais Musoni.

During their stay, the SPLA team will also meet with officials from the Rwanda National Demobilization and Reintegration Commission, officials of Rwanda National Unity and Reconciliation Commission, the Office in charge of National Parks and Tourism in Rwanda (ORTPN), Military Medical Insurance (MMI) and Zigama – Credit and Savings Scheme (CSS). According to Rutaremara, the team will also visit Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre.
