Ever have that one moment that was completely life altering and at the time you did not even know it? It will completely change your perspective, and make you re-consider those you let get close to you, and those you know they are there, but you know you can’t trust them.

Kimberly always knew that she has had issues of getting close to people since she was 13, mostly guys and it took her until she was in her late 20’s to figure out why. When she was a little girl, she was in a circle of friends that did everything together. They always hung out when at school, and outsiders were never welcomed into their little world. However, some in the group were closer than others and that was Kimberley and Jason.
Kimberly and Jason grew up just a 5 minute walk away from each other’s houses, their older siblings were best friends, and even their mothers were friends with one another. Even at school, the factuality noticed their kinship and always knew that when one was around, the other was not far behind…they were virtually inseparable. In junior high, because of the school/city boundaries the small group was split up, however, Kimberley and Jason went to the same junior high…but with two other members of their small group Justin and Joe and they still hung out.
One random day while walking to their next class Jason says to Kimberly "My family moved this is my last day”. She just looked at Jason and replies with "You are?” those were the only words that she was ever able to get out and at the end of the day when Jason got off the bus at his stop, that was the last time she ever saw him.Kimberley spent all of high school alone, she had friends but it was more of a revolving door of friends so to speak. She would go hang out with knew people, but as soon as she felt the relationships was getting too close, she would stop talking to people all together.
She never dated in high school either. She had this undisclosed hate for guys, she knew it was there, but she didn’t know why. She spent the years on and off looking for Jason, but his name was so common it was hard. She did come across an address that she thought was his…written to him…however, she never heard anything back.A couple of years after high school on a random summer day, Jason’s mom contacted her mother and wanted to know if she could visit. On her visit, Kimberley asked how he was doing and she told her what he had been up to. At the end of their visit, Kimberley gave Jason’s mother her email address and asked her if she would give it to him…and that she wanted to get into touch with Jason again.
His mother took the piece of paper…however…she never heard anything from Jason. She had come to realise that perhaps she and Jason were not as close as she or what everyone thought. One day doing some soul searching she had come think that maybe this is why she cannot get close to anyone or even a guy for that matter. Jason was her first friend…he was her first "boyfriend”. He abruptly left her life one day without so much as a simple goodbye not realizing he had really torn her apart inside, and forever changing her outlook on what it takes to have a close friend.ThatGirlinCleveland is based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States of America, and is a Reporter for Allvoices.allvoices.com
