Mobile phones are soon taking the dog’s place as man’s best friend, if they already have not. We care for our phone’s probably more than we do care for ourselves and while at it we at times get carried away and take it too far. How far are we allowed to go while ‘dressing up’ our phones in the name of protection?
Mobile phones are soon taking the dog’s place as man’s best friend, if they already have not. We care for our phone’s probably more than we do care for ourselves and while at it we at times get carried away and take it too far. How far are we allowed to go while ‘dressing up’ our phones in the name of protection? Past the screen guard and protective case how far are we supposed to get?Protective phone cases are amongst the best inventions that happened after phones and beer but while choosing a right protective casing for our phones, we at times take it a little bit too far.As we grow up, our inner childishness at time refuses to die and we let it live through our accessories like the choice of phone covers. You don’t believe me? Why else do grown men have phone cases themed with their favourite cartoon characters? I am not saying there is anything wrong with cartoon character cases. But there is something wrong with a grown man pocketing a phone with a pink or purple case, and worse if it has a power puff girls theme. That’s how some of us end up losing our street credibility and are termed too ‘fruity’.Simple and plain colour should be the ideal way to go for guy’s phones cases. Daring ones are allowed to cross the line a little bit and get a themed casing but nothing too bright or shiny; two colours at most. It should never be too distracting. For the ladies it is allowed to have a little more colour, glitter and anything girlish, but not Rastafarian colours and ganja signs. It is okay to have a few colours and fancy designs for ladies but have a limit, don’t have us thinking that in your down time you have a few puffs. You don’t have to let us know that you have a crush on some famous actor either. There are some new designs ladies can try out that include knitted cases that one can pair with their outfits or some made of kitenge. Most of all, remember that a worn out protective casing doesn’t do much to protect your phone. Know when the case has outlived its purpose and when to dispose it. A worn out one not only ‘degrades’ your phone, it makes the phone beneath look less than it is worth.
