The government is set to involve youth countrywide in the ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’ campaign as part of efforts to foster unity and reconciliation.The Minister for Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, who was briefing the media in Kigali, yesterday, said the campaign will top the agenda at the forthcoming second National YouthConnekt Convention.The convention, that gets underway tomorrow in Kigali, is expected to bring together more than 3,000 youth from different parts of the country."The fact that the youth make up the biggest percentage of the country’s population makes them crucial players in efforts to foster unity and reconciliation,” Nsengimana said.Ndi Umunyarwanda programme, which revolves around the country’s tragic history before and during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, aims at encouraging open discussion as a way of building a nation based on trust and honesty.Rose Mary Mbabazi , the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth and ICT, said they are working on an initiative to help higher institutions of learning countrywide start Ndi Umunyarwanda clubs."There is also a plan to recruit a particular number of youth leaders in every village countrywide to help with the dissemination of reconciliation messages,” Mbabazi said.Alphonse Nkuranga , the executive secretary of the National Council, said the YouthConnekt Convention will also offer a chance to young entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase their projects.The most outstanding exhibitors will be rewarded as way of inspiring other Rwandan youth.
