AS Kigali head coach Andrew Gasambungo ‘Cassa’ admits his team still needs another two to three years before they can be considered genuine league title contenders. The City of Kigali side lead the national league by one point (21) ahead of 13-times winners APR (20), while the defending champions Rayon Sports are four points off the pace in fourth place after nine rounds of matches.AS Kigali won the Peace Cup last season and have made an impressive start to the new campaign, however, Gasambungo remains pessimistic about his team’s chances of winning their first ever league title this season."I don’t want to put too much pressure on the players because we’re still a young team and we want to take one step at a time, to be honest, I don’t think we are ready to be challenging for the league title this season, but maybe in the next two or three years, we should be genuine contenders,” he told Times Sport recently.Gasambungo’s team have won seven and lost two in the nine games played so far. He added, "We are still building the team, which needs a another two full seasons to be able to challenge the big teams, at the moment we are just trying to consolidate our position in the top four. I am not saying we’re not competitors but we don’t want to move ahead of ourselves.” "It will take time because we made so many changes in the team this season, it’s a new team and still learning how to be at the top and managing the pressures that come with it,” noted the former SEC Academy coach."We need to be consistent this year and next so that by 2015, we could be genuine contenders,” he stated.AS Kigali will visit Etincelles at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu when the league returns on December 21 after the ongoing Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya.
