Editor, This is in reference to the story, Experts root for technical education at TVET expo. This is a great; we hail efforts made by our government to promote TVET to bridge the unemployment gap. We also appreciate the awareness campaigns on how technical and vocational education may contribute to economic transformation of the country and ensuring a bright future for TVET graduates.

Editor,This is in reference to the story, Experts root for technical education at TVET expo. This is a great; we hail efforts made by our government to promote TVET to bridge the unemployment gap. We also appreciate the awareness campaigns on how technical and vocational education may contribute to economic transformation of the country and ensuring a bright future for TVET graduates.  Let us join hands to advance our economies, as Africans, through a hidden treasury that is TVET system and make sure TVET is not reserved for those with poor academic records but to those aiming at fostering their lives and development.Once this is embraced by the youth, we hope to take great strides towards development.Jacques Kayigamba, Kigali**********************I thank The New Times for this article. However, I don’t think the government is promoting TVET to reduce import of skilled labour from other countries. I guess it’s trying to build the capacity of her people to be competent on the job market, create their own jobs, and bring new knowledge to the existing body of knowledge. If we continue to import skilled labour from other countries, even when our people have jobs with adequate skills, then that will be a sign of a developed economy. Look at other developed economies like USA, et al.You will find people of all nationalities just because when you have something to do in your own creative way; you will do it, create jobs to those around you, and pay taxes! So, we still need skilled and creative people whether from within or from beyond our borders. I guess that’s what TVET is intended to achieve?Collines, KigaliReactions to the story, "Experts root for technical education at TVET expo” (The New Times, November 30)
