TVET has a critical role in the socio-economic development of the country, Albert Nsengiyumva, the Minister of State for Education in charge of Technical, Vocational Education and Training has said.Nsengiyumva was addressing education stakeholders and government officials, during the official inauguration of Gishari Integrated Polytechnic School in Rwamagana District. The school was built in Gishari Sector by the Workforce Development Authority (WDA) in conjunction with Rwanda National PoliceNsengiyumva said TVET will be a great player in the transformation of Rwanda’s economy, by offering practical skills to Rwandans."We are committed to supporting TVET in the country. One of the challenges we face as a country is unemployment.  More than 60 per cent of our population is the youth less than 30 years. This is a young nation that must be empowered and given skills to create jobs. TVET offers the opportunity,” he said. The minister applauded Rwanda National Police (RNP), for its role in establishing the TVET centre. He said by facilitating the establishment of the school, Police was not only serving its interest, but also that of the whole country."As a small country with limited resources, we have to develop our human resource. TVET will give RNP skills and capacity to fully perform in the country and international missions. It will also be used by civilians hence serving our EDPRS2 programme.”The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, said the school would be used to provide skilled manpower to work in the Police’s engineering regiment."We do not only provide physical security but also a concept we refer to as human security. This is a great achievement, policing is all about partnership. We must use skills, knowledge and abilities to tame nature,” he said.
