Children summit to focus on self-reliance

This year’s National Children’s Summit to be held at provincial level will focus on instilling the spirit of self-reliance, organisers have revealed.

This year’s National Children’s Summit to be held at provincial level will focus on instilling the spirit of self-reliance, organisers have revealed.The event scheduled for December 19, will be themed: "Children and self-reliance.”Speaking at a news conference in Kigali yesterday, Henriette Umulisa, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion said  taking the summit at the provincial level is aimed at providing an enabling environment for children to share their views with the community."It will also enable children engage local leaders who are directly responsible for supporting them and implementing the children’s summit recommendations,” she said.Damiane Ngabonziza, the board chairman of the National Commission for Children (NCC) said this year’s theme suits the overall objective of making children understand their                                                     responsibilities."We should ensure our children get to know their role in the development of the country,” he said.Zaina Nyiramatama, the executive secretary of NCC appealed to parents to teach children how to achieve self-reliance.Children representatives from all over the districts will gather at their respective provincial headquarters for the meeting in which they will discuss and express their views on various issues.
