Northern Province Governor Aime Bosenibamwe, has urged people residing on the borders of the Virunga area to take advantage of the rich soils in the area to venture into horticulture.Bosenibamwe said on Wednesday that residents should not only engage in agriculture for subsistence purposes, but rather make sure they have surplus for the market.Bosenibamwe said residents would earn more through selling their produce to tourists who visit the Volcanoes National Park."As farmers, you need to grow value-added crops especially fruits that you can sell to tourists who visit the park. You cannot develop when you produce only for consumption. Invest in cash crops to generate more revenue,” Bosenibamwe said. For those that are into crafts, the Governor urged them to be demand-driven, by making items that are demanded by the tourists and endeavor to be innovative,” he said.
