Amavubi Stars head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has warned it will be a tough clash when Amavubi stars take on Uganda on Friday in the Group C opening game of Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup at the Machakos Stadium.
The former Rwandan international will be up against his immediate predecessor Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic for the second time in less than three weeks. The latest encounter between the two teams was an international friendly match in Kampala which ended goalless. While Rwanda came into the tournament looking for only their second title, the opponents Uganda are chasing a record-extending 14th title, and will be favourites to win today’s game. However, Nshimiyimana remains focused on a win which could bolster his team’s campaign for the title."We need to win this game, because it is the first game and a win would give players more confidence ahead of the remaining group matches. There is nothing to fear, what we have to do is to play our game and try to score goals,” Nshimiyimana told Times Sport by phone from Nairobi. We will not only need to play collectively as team but also need to be at our top game because to play well and win against teams like Uganda, you need to give your best, the coach explained."We are a team and we know that we have to work together if we want to achieve our objective at Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup,” Nshimiyimana noted. On Wednesday, Zanzibar Heroes got off to a flying start when they beat Southern Sudan 2-1 in the opening day with Suleiman Serembe (5th minute)and Ahmed Saleh (68) scoring for the Islanders, while Fabiano Loko scored the consolation goal for Southern Sudan. The second match of the day between hosts Kenya and Ethiopia ended in a goalless draw.
