While writing this, I was reminded of a bride who refused to leave the salon to go for the church wedding because the groom had sent a Toyota Carina to pick her and not a Mercedes as he had promised.
While writing this, I was reminded of a bride who refused to leave the salon to go for the church wedding because the groom had sent a Toyota Carina to pick her and not a Mercedes as he had promised. I can get a loan to build my dream home where I will spend time with my family. But to get a loan for a wedding is absolute madness. Why should I start a marriage in debt? I know at times family and friends will come up with the perfect wedding plans for you but if you don’t have the finances or they can’t contribute to your wedding, you have no business getting a loan to fund a wedding. Whether as a man or woman, how you handle finances as a couple says a lot about how you will manage a home when you get married. At the end of the day, it will be you as a couple paying the debt and the people you were trying to impress are enjoying their lives. If you start a marriage in debt, a lot is bound to happen. If both of you are not bitter at the end of the month when the money is being deducted from both your accounts then one of you will be grumpy if it is deducted from your account. Luckily I’m not yet married, therefore should my husband-to-be read this, he should know I would not entertain that madness of getting a loan to fund an event yet we can get married without having to spend too much money. I must confess, each time I see the wedding budget at wedding meetings, I feel like going to my parents, showing them my husband-to-be and if they like him, we go to church and then the civil marriage and that’s it! We are married. At the end of the day I will go with my husband and have kids and enjoy life without having to throw an exhausting, money draining wedding. I also don’t think a simple wedding makes a lousier marriage than an extravagant one. My mother taught me that in life there is nothing that is not enough. There is no problem spending the money you have as a couple because trust me if you budget well, it will be enough if you forego a few things. I have overheard many people complain that it’s the women who always want fancy weddings forcing the groom to get a loan to finance the dream wedding. A piece of advice to the men out there, if she demands for a fancy wedding and she is not bringing anything to the table and she advises you to get a loan, please run for dear life because she is not wife material. Marriage is about compromise, sacrifice and understanding.
