Editor,This is in reference to the story; City designates new routes to ease public transport in Kigali. Well done City of Kigali for this timely move. I am impressed by how you are trying to improve life in Kigali in general and public transport in particular.
All decisions you have already taken may need to be adjusted regularly to accommodate new needs or whatever was left out, and I am thanking you immensely for that. However, what do you think of children living near Kimironko Market and go to Kigali Parents School? The kids have to walk at least one kilometre every morning, afternoon, during intense sun and heavy rains to reach the school. If it’s possible, and in the interest of the general public, don’t you think you can adjust routes for Kimironko as follows: Kimoronko-Cumi na Kabiri-Rwandex-City Centre-Chez Lando-Kimironko-Cumi na Kabiri and City Centre-Rwandex-Cumi na Kabiri-Kimironko-Chez Lando-City CentreI know it is not easy to implement my suggestion, but please sit down and find – as you always do — solutions for people living in areas not well served. When you take for example Kimoronko Taxi Park for all people living in the whole sector of Kimironko, it does not reflect the realty of people living within avenues of KG15, KG20, KG37, KG39 and KG41.The ideal should be to serve every single avenue of Kigali.John Rutayitera, Kigali*****************************I welcome this move to designate new routes to ease public transport in Kigali. However the route for minibuses from Eastern Province via Kigali Parents School is somehow cumbersome. Please consider how steep the slope around the school is.And let competition be the driver for efficiency and not the monopolistic tendencies. Competition yields good results for the consumer and monopoly yields monopoly profits to the monopoly.John, KigaliReactions to the story, "City designates new routes to ease public transport in Kigali” (The New Times, November 28)
