Tackle risks involved in garbage collection

Editor, There’s an excellent policy (on environment) in place in Rwanda, but we also have to learn how to separate degradable and non-degradable waste material. We need to have bags made for raw meat, fresh bread and fresh vegetables and make them reusable.

Editor,There’s an excellent policy (on environment) in place in Rwanda, but we also have to learn how to separate degradable and non-degradable waste material. We need to have bags made for raw meat, fresh bread and fresh vegetables and make them reusable. We have to learn to have different garbage bins at home or at collection centres when we get them. The people who collect garbage from homes and at petrol stations should have protective gloves. REMA (Rwanda Environment Management Authority) should urgently look into this matter.Nkusi, Kigali****************Editor,When the government abolished polythene bags it promised to establish alternative materials for packaging, but up to now Rwandans are suffering with lack of packaging materials. This affects business.I think it’s important to look at both sides for the good of our country.John, KigaliReactions to the article, "Rwanda’s war on plastics could form global action plan” (Sunday Times, November 24)
