Faith Mbabazi is the President of Rwandan Association of Women Journalists (ARFEM). Below, she explains to Doreen Umutesi how she is a risk taker when it comes to fashion. How would you describe your dress sense? I am all over the board. I can be formal, classy, sexy classy or retro. I don’t like showing a lot of skin even though I wear short dresses occasionally. I believe you must maintain a kind of secrecy about your body. I like bright colours and I mix patterns. I love anything with buttons at the front. I’m a risk taker with fashion. I like trying new clothes and I think my sense of fashion is just natural. What’s your favourite clothing item? Dresses are my favorite even though I also like trousers. I need to have most of them tailored for me because I am tall and this gets in my way of getting them anywhere which means I visit my tailor rarely.Where do you shop for clothes? I do not have a particular place I go to shop, however I have a friend who knows my taste and carries them to my house every time he has new arrivals in his boutique. Same goes with accessories like handbags and shoes. What do you consider when shopping for clothes? Bright colours and soft fabric that suit my dark skin What is your favourite fashion accessory? Handbags are my favourite accessories because I rarely wear jewelry. I don’t wear earrings. I’m a little conservative and something funny is that my girlfriends don’t like that about me.What is your favourite clothing item on a guy? I am easily taken in by stylish guys that I can’t stop starring at them. I don’t like them too formal though; ties and jackets aren’t my thing. What’s your favourite scent? At the moment I wear Hugo Boss but my preference is Dolce and Gabbana and Parisien.Any fashion advice? I believe what you wear and how you present yourself is a silent introduction to who you are and speaks for your personality. Choice of what to look like is personal. Just wear what makes you comfortable and commands respect, self confidence and esteem.
