AFTER losing three of the opening nine Turbo King National Football League matches, defending champions Rayon Sports find themselves in a distant fifth position on the league table and five points behind the leaders AS Kigali. However, head coach Didier Gomes da Rosa whose team has won five games and drawn one is optimistic the champions will bounce back even stronger when the league returns on December 21 after the forthcoming Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup tournament in Kenya.Rayon Sports have lost to rivals Police and APR 2-1 and 1-0 as well as lowly Etincelles 2-1 respectively but Gomes remains calm and hopeful."We have lost three league matches in nine. It’s not a good thing for Rayon Sports, but it is not the end of the road, we will try to do a lot better in matches when the league returns. My team knows how to win and believe me we shall win more than we lose,” the Frenchman told Times Sport recently. "The players should be commended for putting up a tough fight throughout the matches played so far. Sometimes, we have not been consistent enough but still they tried,” he noted. He added that the team still has a lot of work to do to win the league. "I can say that we have a very good team that can compete on a high level and I promise we will bounce back even stronger,” he said following the champions shock defeat against Etincelles."We are very good team, and we hope the players will fight even more than they did last season, because we are losing so many matches at the moment.”Last season Rayon were not consistent enough in the early stages of the campaign which cost coach Ali Bizimungu his job and was replaced by Gomes when the team was in bottom half, and the French worked his magic to lead the Nyanza-based side to the league title, their first in eight years. The reigning champions are in fifth position with 16 points and they will host Marines on December 21 at Amahoro Stadium, when the league returns after the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, which starts later this month in Nairobi.
