AS Muhanga ditched the unwanted record of being the only team without a win in the opening eight matches of the season after beating visiting Marines 1-0 in a Turbo King National Football League match played on Saturday in Muhanga.
Striker Nassar Irakoze scored the all important goal 11 minutes after the break to easy some pressure off coach Ali Bizimungu, who prior to this weekend, had only managed three points from a possible 24.
Bizimungu’s side started the day bottom is the table but their first win of season moved them three places into 11th position, above Esperance, Amagaju and Marines.
Meanwhile, Espoir missed the chance to move back into the top four after they were held to a goalless by bottom side Esperance in Rusizi.
The point for Emmanuel Ruremesha’s side leaves them in sixth place but level on 16 points with the reigning champions Rayon Sport, who occupy fifth place thanks to a better goal difference.
