Police in Musanze district are holding a woman accused of killing her husband on Sunday morning.Police said the suspect used a hoe during a domestic fight to hit her husband.The accused, 41, is a resident of Mbwe Cell, Gashaki Sector in Musanze District, and has four children with her deceased husband.Local authorities say the man had an abusive history and had threatened to kill the accused several times and that at the time of the tragedy, he was trying to kill her.Alfred Nsengimana, the sector executive secretary, said local authorities had on several occasions been called to quell fights between the couple, and on all the occasions, they had found the husband the aggressor.Neighbours told this paper that the deceased had sold the family home without consulting his wife and, on Saturday, he sold a cow and on returning home, he told the wife that all proceeds had been stolen.The wife admits that she had killed her husband adding that it was in self defence because the deceased attacked her, accusing her of stealing the money.Chief Supt Francis Gahima, the Northern Region Police Spokesperson, said investigations so far indicate that this was a case of involuntary manslaughter and the suspect acted in self defence."The family has been in disputes for a long time, the husband was very aggressive towards his wife and neighbours were aware but they didn’t reveal information until the killing occurred,” said Gahima.He called upon residents and local leaders to provide information on time to avert similar preventable incidents.
