APR captain Ismail Nshutiyamagara alias Kodo has said that the army side are title favourites after beating archrivals and reigning champions Rayon Sports on Saturday at the overly packed Amahoro national stadium.Midfielder Charles Tibingana Mwesigye scored a second half goal to earn maximum points to hand the record 13-times Rwandan champions a hard fought 1-0 win to move above the Blues into second place, four points behind leaders AS Kigali, who won 2-0 against Esperance at Stade de Kigali. Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Nshutiyamagara said, "We’re a big club, so the only goal we can have is to win trophies. There are about three or four clubs in the chase for the league title, so it is very competitive, but with this win (over Rayon), we should be favourites.”"Our objective this year is to win every title, including the league and Peace Cup. However, we need to stay focused and don’t get carried away because we have beaten our biggest rivals,” added the former Atraco FC defender. He continued, "It’s an important win for us; we have a lot of things to put right after last season’s disappointment.”"We want the league title and we’ve got the squad to do that. I think all of us are ready for the task ahead and that performance against Rayon Sports will give us more confidence and self belief that we can actually go on to win big things,” explained the Rwandan international.APR’s victory moved them into second position, tied with Musanze on 17 points but have a superior goal difference over the Northern Province-based side that won 2-0 away to Marines. Rayon Sports dropped to fourth position with 16 points.AS Muhanga and Amagaju are bottom of the table with three and two points respectively. The ninth round of the Turbo King Football league is set for Tuesday when APR travel to Musanze.
